My background as anthropologist helped me to gain knowledge about the relationship between culture, health and illness. During my assignments as a humanitarian worker in countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sri Lanka, Republic of Sudan, Central African Republic, Somalia, Haiti etc., I experienced how important it is to understand a particular context to be able to be effective. In addition to this, cultural sensitivity and the use of intercultural communication skills are essential.
During my trainings I provide information and reflect on the different perceptions of health, illness and wellbeing, and will use practical examples.
